Heather’s Mindful Tutoring
Hi, I’m Heather and I tutor KS2 children in Hove - with a mindful twist
I am a qualified, compassionate teacher based in Hove, helping children find confidence and calm through personalised, mindful tutoring. I bring a gentle, thoughtful approach to every session. Whether it’s reading or maths, I meet each child where they are, with kindness, patience, and fun! My sessions blend structured learning with mindful techniques like yoga and breath work, helping children thrive academically and emotionally.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and have taught all ages and abilities from Reception to Year 6, including preparing students for SATs. I am experienced in teaching children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those no longer in mainstream education. I have taught in both single-sex and co-educational schools, and in both the private and state sector. I taught in Primary schools for 29 years in Thailand, Australia, Kenya and the UK, so have a wealth of experience of different schools and teaching styles.
My approach has been designed to meet your child’s learning goals and emotional needs. I create personalised learning experiences that cater to individual student needs and learning styles. Instilling in each child a love of learning and the confidence to explore and develop their individual talents is important to me.
Why Mindful Tutoring?
Mindful tutoring helps children to:
Bounce back from mistakes
Stay grounded during challenges (tests, transitions, etc.)
Develop tools they’ll use for life, not just for school
Builds Resilience, Not Just Results
Helps Children with Learning Differences Thrive
For children with differences such as dyslexia, ADHD or anxiety, mindful tutoring can be a game-changer:
Lessons are structured with calm, focus-building techniques (like breathing or movement breaks).
It avoids overwhelm, which helps children to stay engaged and feel safe to take risks in their learning.
It’s very different to being at school, your child will get:
Individual attention, tailored to their pace, personality and needs
A tutor who listens, notices, and responds with warmth and empathy
Lessons in your home or mine, at a time that suits you
A Nurturing, One-to-One Connection
Supports the Whole Child
Mindful tutoring combines education with emotional and mental well-being. This means that:
Your child isn’t just learning facts—they’re learning how to manage stress, focus better, and build confidence.
Children are guided in a calm, encouraging environment that meets them where they are.
If children are anxious about, or don’t want to go to school, mindful tutoring can:
Rebuild a positive relationship with learning
Give them space to express frustrations without judgment
Incorporate yoga or mindfulness practices to lower nervous system stress
Reduces Anxiety about School
